Introduction

Rajkumar Hirani is also known by name Raju Hirani. He is a very popular personality in the Indian Film industry. He is not only a successful director but also a filmmaker, producer, and editor. He is one of the most prominent filmmakers in the Indian Film industry. His films are very influential and become the highest engrossing films. He is a recipient of many awards for his outstanding work which includes three National Film Awards and eleven Filmfare Awards. 

Early Life & Education

Rajkumar Hirani was born in Nagpur in a Sindhi family. His father is Suresh Hirani who used to run a typing institute established at Nagpur. He completed his early education from St. Francis De’Sales High School in Nagpur, Maharashtra. He is a commerce graduate. During his college time, he used to devote much of his time in theater. He took admission to a film editing course and earned a scholarship also.

Filmography Career

Rajkumar Hirani started his early work in 1994 and he tried various film editing but did not have success. Then he turned to the advertisement sector. He was the director and producer of many advertisements. But he had the desire to direct films and then he started working with Vidhu Vinod Chopra. Rajkumar did promotion work for many films like 1942: A Love Story and Kareeb. For the first time, he got the opportunity to work as a film editor with Mission Kashmir. 

The period 2003-2009 brought success for Rajkumar Hirani. Not only he entered into the Indian film industry as a successful director but also as a great filmmaker. He made his directorial debut with the comedy film Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. The film includes great actors such as Sanjay Dutt, Gracy Singh, Boman Irani, Arshad Warsi, Sunil Dutt, and Jimmy Sheirgill. The film received a positive response from the audience and the critics and it received many awards also such as the National Film Award for Best Popular Film and the Filmfare Critics Award for best film. Rajkumar Hirani received his first Filmfare Award for Best Screenplay. In 2006, the second franchise of the Munna Bhai came called Lage Raho Munna Bhai. The star cast was almost the same only Vidya Balan replaced Gracy Singh. The film was another blockbuster and the film became the highest engrossing film of that time. It won many awards such as National Film Award for Best Popular Film, Best Story award, and Best Dialogue award and Rajkumar Hirani got his second Critics Award for Best Film.

In the year 2009, Rajkumar Hirani came with a comedy-drama film 3 Idiots which highlighted the reality of today’s education system. The film earned 4.60 Billion and was yet another blockbuster.  

Rajkumar Hirani earned National Film Award for Best Popular Film Award and Filmfare Best Film and Best Director Award. With this film, he became one of the top filmmakers in the Indian film industry. In December Rajkumar directed the film PK came. It was Aamir Khan’s production film and the film received a positive response from audience. The films got nominated in various categories and won many awards also. 

Sanju was another hit film by Rajkumar Hirani which came in the year 2018. The film was based on the life of Actor Sanjay Dutt. His addiction to drugs, family, the 1993 Bombay bombings, his personal relationship, jail journey, and coming back to the film Industry. Sanju became the highest engrossing film and received many nominations for awards.
