Dev Anand -one of the greatest gems produced by Bollywood is known for his versatility worldwide. Born on September 26, 1923, he is a noted Hindi film actor, writer, director as well as producer. Although he left the world at the age of 88, he still remains immortal amongst his fans, followers, well-wishers and friends for his immense and valuable contribution in Hindi Cinema. He is a nationally and internationally accredited epitome of success.
Although he had an illustrious career, on his 96th birthday, we would like to recall the finest, memorable and super-legendary five of his acted movies that are a milestone in his career.
C.I.D. (1956) – Directed by Mr. Raj Khosla, the movie showcases Dev Anand as a police inspector, investigating a murder case of a man who was murdered while attempting to expose a rich man’s link to the underworld. It features Waheeda Rehman opposite him, with an eternal song “Kahin pe nigahen, kahin pe nishana”.
Kala Pani (1958) – Directed by Mr. Raj Khosla, the movie depicts Dev Anand a a young man, who after learning about his father’s wrongful implication in a 15 years old murder, vows and struggles to bring the true criminals to justice and finally releases his father from ‘Kalapani’. It features Madhubala opposite him, bagging a Film fare Best Actor Award for the evergreen actor.
Guide (1965) – Based on the novel ‘The Guide’ by R.K. Narayan, the movie showcases Dev Anand as a tourist guide who meets an unhappy married woman (Waheeda Rehman) wanting to take up dancing. With his motivation, she becomes a successful dancer, but the success corrupts the man’s mind.
Jewel Thief (1967) – Directed by Mr. Vijay Anand, the movie depicts Dev Anand as Vinay, who is always mistaken for an exact look-alike jewel thief, Amar. To prove his innocence, he joins hands with the police to impersonate the thief and gets him caught. It features Vyjayantimala opposite him.
Prem Pujari (1970) – The movie shows Dev Anand as Ramdev, a peace loving man, who enrolls in the Army and joins active duty, but is arrested and court-martialed for disobeying rules. Beautified with eternal songs, the movie features Waheeda Rehman opposite the Guide fame.
