His brother Sanjay Kapoor is a famous Indian film actor and producer and Boney Kapoor is a successful film producer following his sister being married to Sandeep Marwah who is one of the founders of Noida Film City and Director of the Asian Academy of Film and Television.
Early Life
Born in a family of a famous film producer, Surinder Kapoor and model Nirmal Kapoor. Anil Kapoor studied at O.L.P.S. (Our Lady of Perpetual Succor) School and later graduated from St. Xavier's College, Mumbai. He lived in his Mumbai home with brothers Boney Kapoor and Sanjay Kapoor and Sister, Reena Kapoor.
Personal Life
Anil Kapoor is married to a known model of her time, Sunita Bhambhani in her early career days. He has two daughters, Sonam Kapoor Ahuja and Rhea Kapoor and a son, Harshvardhan Kapoor.
Career
Anil Kapoor gave a kick start to his career with the Hamare Tumhare but Woh Saat Din was his first movie in a lead role. He not only worked in Hindi films but also in many other languages, all films have been a part of his successful career. Collectively, all the movies played an important role in Anil Kapoor's career and bagged him many nominations and awards as well. Even still, Anil Kapoor is termed as one of the youngest-looking actors in Bollywood.
Filmography
Though his first debut movie was a silver screen movie, Hamare Tumhare released in 1979, whereas in Woh Saat Din, Anil Kapoor appeared in his first Hindi film lead role in 1983. Meanwhile, from 1979 to 1983, he appeared in many other language films like Vamsa Vruksham, a Telugu film in 1979, which was his debut movie in a lead role, a Kannada film debut with Mani Ratnam's Pallavi Anu Pallavi (1983).
In 1984, Anil Kapoor played as a supporting actor in Yash Chopra's Mashaal for which he received a first Filmfare award in the Supporting actor category. In 1988, Anil Kapoor won his first Filmfare best actor award for his performance in Tezaab and then another for Indra Kumar’s Beta.
Anil Kapoor was seen in many commercially successful and critically acclaimed films like Meri Jung in 1985, Karma, Janbaaz, Aap Ke Sath in 1986, Mr. India In 1987, which was a huge success at the box office and Anil Kapoor was praised for his performance. Then came Ghar Ho To Aisa and Awaargi in 1990, Benaam Badshah in 1991 and Virasat in 1997 for which he received the Best Actor award category in the Filmfare awards another movie was Taal which was released in 1999 for which Anil Kapoor bagged his second Best supporting actor Filmfare Award. Following that, Anil Kapoor won the National Film Award for Best Actor for Pukar which was released in 2000 and received Filmfare Best supporting actor award for No Entry (2005) and Dil Dhadakne Do (2015).
Anil Kapoor’s first role in the film Slumdog Millionaire, 2005, bagged Danny Boyle’s Academy Award, for which he shared Screen Actors Guild for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in Motion Picture.
His production career went simultaneously with acting. In 2002, a comedy movie named Badhaai Ho Badhaai was released which was the first movie produced by Anil Kapoor which was followed by My Wife’s Murder in 2005 and Gandhi my Father in 2007. In 2012, he produced Aisha, starring his daughter Sonam Kapoor and Abhay Deol.
Anil Kapoor acquired the rights to remake the American TV series, 24. He also played President Hassan in the 8th season of the series, Original which aired on Fox Network.
Anil Kapoor is not limited to acting, he has also contributed to his movies as a singer, including Chameli Ki Shaadi in 1986, for the song, ‘Tere Bina Main Nahi Mere Bina Tu Nahi’, for the film Woh Saat Din, song ‘I Love You’, from Hamara Dil Aapke Paas hai. Anil Kapoor also had a full album named Welcome with co-singer, Salma Agha in 1986. The album was scored by Bappi Lahiri.
