Early Life
Shah Rukh Khan was born in New Delhi to Muslim parents. His father’s name is Mir Taj Muhammad Khan while his mother is Lateef Fatima. Mir Taj participated in the independence movement of India in Peshawar in Pakistan and shifted to New Delhi when India became independent and was separated from Pakistan in 1948. In Delhi, he was a resident of the Rajendra Nagar area. Shahrukh Khan has an elder sister Shehnaz Lalarukh who lives with him in Mumbai.
Shah Rukh Khan was sent to St. Columba’s School for education. He was a good student and did well in his studies. Taking a keen interest in sports and games, he participated in hockey and football. Shah Rukh Khan wanted to become a professional sportsman but had to quit his desire due to a shoulder injury that made him unfit for sports. During his young age, Shah Rukh Khan participated in drama and played roles in stage plays. He tried to copy Bollywood stars of the olden times like Dilip Kumar. His list of favorite actors includes Amitabh Bachchan. Among the female stars, Mumtaz was his favorite actor.
Shah Rukh Khan went to Hansraj College for a graduate degree in economics in 1985-88. It was at this time that he joined a theatre group in Delhi. This helped in instilling essential acting skills in him. After graduation, Shahrukh Khan joined Jamia Millia Islamia University for a course in Mass Communications. However, he did not finish his studies as he decided to start acting in films. Shah Rukh Khan went to the National School of Drama to learn acting.
Mir Taj, Shahrukh's father expired in 1981 after being affected by cancer. His mother also left the world ten years later in 1991 and died due to diabetes complications.
Acting Career
Shah Rukh Khan began his acting career with a role in Fauji, which was a TV serial aired in 1988. It was a popular drama that launched Shah Rukh as an actor and a heartthrob of young girls. He was given the role of Abhimanyu Rai in this serial. The drama was based on the life of army cadets. It was in 1991 that Shah Rukh Khan decided to enter Bollywood as an actor. He signed 4 movies after this. He acted in the movie Dil Aashna Hai, which was the first movie by the well-known actress Hema Malini as a director. His movie Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman became a hit in 1992. The movie Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge gave instant stardom to Shah Rukh Khan, in which he played the role of an NRI. His co-star in the movie was Kajol. Later years saw many of his movies that went on to become a huge hits. The movie Dear Zindagi in which Shah Rukh Khan has a significant role was released in 2016.

Shah Rukh Khan entered the world of cinema with his first movie Deewana in which he acted along with actress Divya Bharti. This movie became commercially successful at the box office. It was the first movie that granted the Best Male Debut Award to Shah Rukh Khan. The movie Dil To Pagal Hai won the Best Actor Award by Filmfare. Shah Rukh Khan won the Critics Award For Best Actor in the movie Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham. He received another Filmfare Award For Best Actor for the movie Chak De! India. The movie was based on hockey. Shah Rukh Khan has acted in a large number of movies till now and he is loved for his roles.
