5 Weddings: Rajkummar Rao and Nargis Fakhri Set For New Venture, this September
Rajkummar Rao set to debut at the 71 Cannes Film Festival with 5 Weddings
After getting rave reviews for his performance in latest releases viz Bareilly Ki Barfi, Shaadi Mein Jarur Aaana and Newton, Rajkummar Rao is all set to venture his debut at the 71 Cannes Film Festival with his upcoming American film 5 Weddings. Helmed by an Indo-American director, Namrata Singh Gujral, the movie rolls around an Indian-origin American journalist [played by Nargis Fakhri who travels to India to write for magazine feature about multiple Indian wedding ceremonies but is interrupted by Rajkummar Rao who plays role of a police officer who thinks she is a spy. Nargis gets caught in the drama of Punjabi weddings and shuffle down on the other side of India where poor people are seen suffering. She falls in love with the country and the cop who takes her around.
5 Weddings deals with weddings but also the community of transgender who are seen dancing at Indian weddings. Set in India and America, the movie has been in the making for quite some time now and is slated for release on September 21
Actor Rajkumar Rao will be seen as Police Officer Harbhajan Singh opposite to Nargis Fakhri who is playing the role of American journalist. Along with these two 5 Weddings also stars Candy Clark,Academy Award nominee, Golden Globe nominee Bo Derek and Anneliese Van der Pol Dutch-American actor. Other actors who have been casted are Suvinder Vicky, Saru Maini, Ravi Aneja, Mariana Paola Vicente, Dawn Richard, Rupak Ginn, Pooja Gujral, Diljott, Darshan Aulakh, Shiwani Saini, Isabella Jem, Ramniq Sandhu, Bagga Cheema, Neil Singh, Abhimanue and Ramesh Bhardwaj. 5 Weddings marks the first step for Rao in Hollywood.
The movie had its world premiere at the 71st Cannes Film Festival. Director Namrata Singh Gujral in an interview said "It will be the first time audiences will be able to watch the film. It is immensely exciting and nerve-wracking at the same time. Americans are loving the film – so, I hope the French like it too," Nargis will be seen onscreen after a gap of two years. She was last seen opposite Riteish Deshmukh in ‘Banjo’ in 2016. While Rajkummar Rao will soon be seen in ‘Fanne Khan’ along side actors Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Anil Kapoor.
